Nov 2023 Update

Dear friends of Nestworks,

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news that effective November 1, 2023, we will be suspending operations.

It’s a longer story, however the nutshell version is that despite having been able to build up a committed following in April – June of this year, we have been unable to achieve consistent support this Fall and lack the resources to continue to fund our costs.

As a volunteer-run not-for-profit that has been building its business case since 2017, we have very limited resources and are unable to continue to subsidize the costs of delivering a premium service in the heart of Vancouver. The partnership with This World’s Ours has been wonderful, however we share the same challenges of any small business seeking to build a consistent customer base in a notoriously expensive city.

As for what’s next, we remain hopeful for the future, and will continue to meet as a board and consider future opportunities. We have not come this far only to let the dream go, however we need some time to regroup. As always, we welcome your questions and feedback.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to every one of you who has been part of the Nestworks experience to date.

We’re back!

Nestworks and This World’s Ours (TWO) are thrilled to announce our continued partnership. Starting on Tuesday September 5th, we are resuming co-working and optional childminding for kids ages 12 months to 5 years old Monday to Friday, 9am to 12 noon, exclusive of holidays.

Following our initial Spring 2023 pop-up, we learned many things, including that it would be more efficient for TWO to assume responsibility of Nestworks daily operations. Registration, customer service and staffing will now be handled by Koryn and her team at TWO. For returning Nestworkers, the experience will remain the same.

Contact Koryn Heisler (at left in photo, with Nestworks Founder Madeleine Shaw) – info@thisworldsours.com with any questions about fall bookings.

TWO is located at 191 E 10th Ave in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver. Co-working and childminding can be booked here. Looking forward to reconnecting at Nestworks this fall and continuing what we’re building together!

Our First Pop-up!

We were thrilled to host our first-ever pop-up childminding and co-working event at Gem House Vancouver on Saturday February 22nd. Together with our childminding partners from Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS), we hosted a wonderful day of productivity and connection. Prototyping Nestworks has been a challenge as we evolve, however this event provided a wonderful taste of what is possible when – rather than struggling to separate work and life – we seek to integrate them.

We welcomed children from as young as 10 days (Hello, Blue!) up to 14 (Madeleine‘s daughter Gigi, who along with her Lunapads business partner Suzanne’s children Aiden and Garrett, were the original inspiration for Nestworks), as well as a diverse group of parents and other supporters. A massive THANK YOU to Felicia Chang for so beautifully capturing the day in these gorgeous photographs .

Our First Community Engagement Event: Thank You!

Nestworks’ first community engagement event was held on October 24th, 2017. Over 50 people signed up to help us better understand their needs and consider our next steps. We were even joined by a small friend, one of our key user profiles! Some very rich insights were gathered, and we are now consolidating everyone’s fabulous ideas, buoyed by their optimism and encouragement. Stay tuned for more activities in 2018, and many thanks again to all of those who were able to join us!
